Tropical Cyclones & the 1-2-3 Rule for Avoidance

alg-hurricane-jpgBurgeeThis 3 hour course will discuss the basics of tropical cyclone systems and their impact on the US East & Gulf Coasts, Eastern Pacific Ocean (Mexican West Coast), and sometimes even Hawaii. Tropical Cyclones are different in size and dynamics than their middle latitude cousins (both provide their challenges to all boaters). The environmental conditions for each of these systems are different from their middle latitude cousins as well.  The Tropical Atlantic Ocean & Gulf of Mexico of are not limitless in their geographic extent (especially the Gulf of Mexico) and there is also a hostile environment for these destructive systems as some of them move northward into cooler waters from the tropical and subtropical latitudes. However, the lead time for avoidance and strategies will be different in the coastal areas than those issued over open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, & the Caribbean Sea. Thus we introduce the 1-2-3 Rule for avoidance, concentrating on the 34 knot wind radii. We will also breakdown the Tropical Cyclone Message (TCM) for interpretation, clarity, and application. The Hurricane Season in these waters are a bit later (June 1st) than the eastern Pacific (begins May 15th). This invaluable paid presentation is a compliment to the earlier free morning seminar “The Pathway To Becoming The Weather Wise Sailor”  and both should not be missed!_62508934_jex_1500119_de27-1
