Advanced Meteorology Course (March 15) & Continued Hands On Application Course (March 16)

2 Days of Advanced Meteorology Course & Hands-On Application

This two day advanced course builds upon the knowledge students gained from attending the Basic Marine Weather Self-Reliance course on Feb 23rd /March 8th  and the follow up companion course on March 9th , or any other one or two day  Basic Marine Weather Courses by Lee Chesneau, taken in the past year. Topics covered in this course include discussion of upper air concepts as an introduction to the holy grail of weather forecasting and routing: “500 Mb” upper air charts, which includes upper level troughs & ridges, flow patterns, and the important vessel weather forecasting & routing applications and exercises. The other topics covered in the course will be Tropical Cyclone Basics and the 1-2-3 Rule for avoidance along with a practical reinforcement avoidance exercise. The course will end with a full weather map discussion leading up to a virtual voyage long distance route planning and underway exercise, which will utilize all the Surface Pressure, Sea State, and Upper Air Analyses and Forecast Charts covered in both of the Basic and just completed Advanced Marine Weather courses.Though there is a choice of taking only the first day of this two-day course, it is recommended that both days be taken to receive the application knowledge needed to have a full understanding of marine weather forecasting, giving you the confidence of being self reliant in your own weather forecasting as well as keeping your crew & vessel out of harm’s way.

After completing both Basic and Advanced Marine Weather courses, students can considered themselves armed with the knowledge and cultural skill needed to be more self-reliant in their own weather forecasting skills. Course time is 8 to 4 with Q&A time after!
