Marine Weather 3 (Annapolis, Oct 31 – Nov 1)

ASCLogoBWCApicThis two-day course builds upon the knowledge students gained from attending previous Marine Weather 1 & 2 courses by Lee Chesneau (required). This is an applied vessel weather forecast and routing course, taking multiple oceans into consideration – north Atlantic (including the Gulf of Mexico & the Caribbean Sea) & the north Pacific Ocean (including the Bering Sea).

There will be  longer range virtual voyage planning exercise using Pilot charts (and then validating the routes when comparing them to real time weather charts (again, north Atlantic and Pacific Ocean basins). There will be further topics and reinforcement voyage planning exercises and voyage exercise relating to the Gulf Stream & “North Wall episodes, Tropical Cyclones Basics & the 1-2-3 Rule for avoidance. There will be a student conducted “weather briefing” based on knowledge gained from the three 2-day Marine Weather courses, for developing a culture for confidence building in self reliant weather forecasting and routing for all class attendees.

Finally, there will be a final assessment exam on weather forecasting and vessel routing based on practical weather chart reading covered in all the Marine Weather courses. Passing the final assessment will earn a certificate of successful completion, and eligible for Al Golden’s International Marine Insurance Services (IMIS) Corp.
